Trouble was transferred [from the 44th Bomb Group] to the 389th BG in October 1943. It was shot down by Fw190 (probably flown by Luftwaffe ace Egon Mayer) near Paris, France on January 7, 1944. Aboard that day was Ken Caldwell who was the lead pilot for the 389th BG for the Ploesti mission.
