This 389th BG B-24D was one of the early olive colored aircraft.
The waist gunner's open window on the side of the plane is clearly visible in this photo.
Even with and add-on air deflector it was a windy and cold position.
Some later versions of the B-24 incorporated plexiglass enclosures for the waist gun position.
